Solo Exhibition

From 7 July to 4 November 2018 Agrigento and Monreale are hosting the exhibition ‘Jan Fabre – Ecstasy & Oracles’ -on the occasion of Manifesta12-. A challenging selection of new and rarely seen visual works of art  unfold a remarkable itinerary across archaeological sites, squares, places of worship, monuments and libraries from these two sublime Sicilian cities. The exhibition is curated by Joanna De Vos and Melania Rossi, in a continuous dialogue with Jan Fabre. The project is organized by MondoMostre.

Over fifty works executed between 1982 and 2016 are on display: series of drawings in amongst others pencil, blood and Bic ballpoint pen; sculptures in materials ranging from wax to silicon bronze; performance films and mosaics made with the precious but nature strong and splendid wing-cases of the scarab. Two new works, specifically created for this occasion: ‘Schande übers Ganze Erdenreich!’and ‘Searching Oracle Stones’ will be on display. The exhibition dramaturgy evolves in creative synergy with places of outstanding historical and artistic worth: the Parco della Valle dei Templi and the city of Agrigento, Monreale and the monumental complex of its Cathedral. It sets the Greek art of the temples and the Byzantine mosaics in relation with Fabre’s hyper-personal visual vocabulary.
