UNDER THE SPELL OF BOSCH

Between 1530 and 1540, a series of five tapestry copies were made in Brussels of paintings by Hieronymus Bosch. Four of the tapestries are now in El Escorial in Spain. The fifth, The Elephant, has been lost. The composition is known from a print from ca. 1550 by Hieronymus Cock which is in the collection of the Noordbrabants Museum.

Artist Jan Fabre was commissioned by the museum to create a contemporary interpretation of Bosch’s design. The tapestry was produced by contemporary methods by the TextielMuseum’s TextielLab. The tapestry is now shown for the first time.
